Gov. Evers Calls Special Session on Criminal Justice Reform
Gov. Tony Evers issued an executive order earlier today calling the legislature into a special session next week to address police reform. The move comes after a video went viral of the police shooting a Black man in Kenosha this past Sunday.
Evers supports legislation that would ban police chokeholds and no-knock search warrants, among other policy changes. It was originally introduced in June but did not gain traction.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos announced he is forming a task force focusing on racial disparities, educational opportunities, public safety, and police policies and standards.
The session will begin at noon on August 31st.
