Our Mission

What We Do

The Litigation Center represents WMC and other clients in legal actions to foster and protect the free enterprise system. In support of WMC’s mission to make Wisconsin the most competitive state in the nation to do business, the WMC Litigation Center will defend the business community from government entities that act beyond their authority.

Unlawful governmental overreach is burdensome and costly to employers who are looking to grow the economy, hire more workers, and increase wages. Instead of reinvesting in their workforce and expanding, many businesses must put countless hours and large sums of money into complying with regulations that governments don’t have the authority to impose in the first place.

That is where the WMC Litigation Center comes in. Working on behalf of the business community and the public, the Litigation Center authors briefs and files lawsuits in defense of free enterprise, to ensure regulatory certainty, oppose unlawful taxation, and to enforce separation of powers.

In 2021, the WMC Litigation Center acquired the Great Lakes Legal Foundation.

Who We Are

The WMC Litigation Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, public interest law firm affiliated with Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) – the combined state chamber of commerce and manufacturers’ association. Because the Litigation Center’s funding comes entirely from voluntary donations, it devotes its resources to lawsuits that will have a beneficial and wide impact on our state’s economy. The WMC Litigation Center is comprised of forward-thinking leaders and like-minded business professionals committed to preserving business autonomy and integrity.

Our Donors

Our donors know how hard it is to fight alone. Government agencies regulate nearly every part of daily life. The individual worker, farmer, or Main Street business owner does not have the resources to fight the government in court when it imposes unlawful and costly regulations on them.

But our donors know that these issues affect everyone. They are willing to fight, not just alongside the person, but for the rule of law in Wisconsin. Our impact litigation aims to protect our individual clients while also serving the public interest.

Our Clients

We represent a wide range of clients, including WMC, local business associations, employers, and workers. They all share one thing in common: they rely on our courts to protect them when the government acts beyond its authority. They seek to hold the government accountable when it violates the law and harms our state’s economy.
